Vest Biogass: A regional powerhouse for the circular economy

Antec is now building in Hornindal Vest Biogas – a state-of-the-art facility that will transform local organic waste into valuable resources. By combining our proprietary Biofilm Plug Flow technology with conventional anaerobic treatment, we are setting a new standard for efficient resource utilization in Western Norway.

From local waste to green energy

The facility has the capacity to process 150,000 tonnes of biomass annually. We create a robust value chain by receiving raw materials from several key industries:

  • Agriculture Manure from nearby farms.
  • Aquaculture Fish sludge and fish silage from the region's aquaculture industry.
  • Household: Slurry based on organic food waste.

Our products and contributions

Through the biological process we extract energy and nutrients that go directly back to society:

  • Liquefied biogas (LBG): A climate-friendly fuel for lorries and ships that reduces emissions in the transport sector.
  • Tailored bio-fertilisers: We separate phosphorus and nitrogen to create a nutrient-rich fertiliser tailored to the local soil. This improves crop yields and reduces farmers' need for chemical fertilisers.
  • Green Bio-CO₂: In the next phase, we will capture CO₂ from the process for delivery to the food and drink industry, which further strengthens the circular model.

Large ripple effects for Volda and the region

Vest Biogass is more than an industrial plant; it is an engine for sustainable development. When the plant is in full production, it will contribute over 40 %: Reducing the carbon footprint in Volda Municipality.

The project also creates local jobs:

  • 5 to 7 direct jobs at the plant.
  • 6–8 indirect jobs in the municipality related to logistics and services.

Status and progress

The building process is well underway, and we look forward to commissioning the facility. Scheduled start: Q3 2026
