Antec Biofilm Plug flow reactor: The future of technology for biogas production

Traditional biogas plants require enormous tanks and long retention times to break down organic material. With Antec's patented Biofilm Plug Flow reactor, we are revolutionising the way biological waste is converted into energy. By combining advanced mechanical engineering with optimised biological processes, we deliver a compact, efficient and forward-looking reactor solution for modern industry, agriculture and aquaculture.

Ground-breaking biofilm technology

The core of our reactor solution is the way we accommodate the gas-producing bacteria. Instead of the bacteria floating freely in the biomass, we have developed fixed surfaces inside the reactor where a rich and stable biofilm is formed:

  • Faster decomposition: The biofilm holds the bacteria in place in the plant instead of them being washed out with the digestate. This drastically cuts the retention time and increases gas production compared to conventional tanks.

  • The Plug Flow Principle: The biomass is controllably pushed through the reactor in a continuous flow. This ensures that all material receives the exact same optimal treatment and prevents untreated mass from slipping through.

  • Modular and scalable: The reactor is built as prefabricated modules in a closed system. This means minimal site footprint, rapid installation, and easy upscaling for future needs.

Why choose the Antec reactor?

Our reactor technology is developed to handle complex, energy-dense and challenging feedstock combinations that traditional plants struggle with:

  • Maximum gas yield: Extracting the full energy potential from challenging biomasses such as fish sludge, livestock manure, silage and food waste.

  • High process fine instability: The extremely high bacterial count in the biofilm makes the reactor robust and highly resistant to fluctuations in temperature or the composition of the biomass.

  • Cost-effective startup: Prefabrication and shorter construction time on-site provide lower capital costs and a quicker path to commercial operation and profitability.

  • Technology that makes a difference: The Antec reactors make it possible to produce more green energy in a shorter time and with a significantly smaller footprint than traditional technology. This is industrial innovation that makes the circular economy profitable.
