Vest Biogass

Vest Biogass is being built in Hornindal and will be a modern facility based on the best technologies available on the market.
With the capacity to process 100,000 tons of biomass annually, the plant will be an important contributor to green energy and the circular economy in the region.

We accept:

  • Manure from nearby farms
  • Fish sludge and fish silage from the aquaculture industry
  • Household slurry from organic food waste

From this biomass, liquid biogas (LBG) will be produced – a green fuel for trucks and ships that reduces emissions and contributes to a more sustainable transport sector.

When the biomass has been digested and the methane extracted, biofertilizer is produced. This is adapted to local soil conditions by separating phosphorus and nitrogen, so that farmers receive a nutrient-rich fertilizer that improves crop yields and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. We collaborate with the agricultural sector on logistics and quality to ensure an efficient value chain.

In the next phase, we will also capture CO₂ from the process and deliver green CO₂ to the food industry – an important contribution to the circular economy.

Impacts:

  • Direct employment: 5–7 people
  • Indirect employment: 6–8 people in the municipality

Planned start-up: Q3 2026.

Vest Biogass aims to become a key player in sustainable energy and resource utilization in Western Norway, and once in full production, it will help reduce the carbon footprint in Volda municipality by over 40%
